Admissions

All students must have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).

All our 6th form places are managed and allocated through consultation and in partnership with the Newcastle Local Authority SEND team.

For a young person to be admitted into 6th form, Sir Charles Parsons School must be named by the Local Authority in the child’s EHCP. The EHCP describes the young person’s needs, and how these needs should be met.

The suitability and appropriateness of any new referral is considered very carefully by the Headteacher and Senior Leadership Team in school, and a recommendation is then made to the Newcastle LA SEND team.

If we feel that we are not a suitable placement for a young person, or if we feel that a young person’s admission would be incompatible with the efficient education of other students at the school or an inefficient use of resources, we will provide feedback to the Newcastle LA SEND team about this.

Offer

Students in 6th form

We would expect that all students following the red pathway, would leave Sir Charles Parsons School in year 11 and progress into Further Education.

Some students in year 11 orange and yellow pathway, may decide that they would like to leave school at the end of the year and progress into Further Education. Subject to educational progress, these students will also have the option of remaining at SCP for a further year in 6th form, with a view to transitioning into Further Education at the end of year 12.

Students following the green and blue pathway will be offered 1 year in 6th form. Subject to educational progress, some students will be offered a further year. (Maximum of 2 years). This will be reviewed on an individual basis.

Students following the indigo and violet pathway will be offered 1 year in 6th form. Subject to educational progress, some students will be offered a further year. (Maximum of 3 years). This will be reviewed on an individual basis.
